11 years later and SARS is still a national nightmare in any conversation. In 2003 the global outbreak started as a mystery illness without name, origin, or cure. In 2002 the disease first appeared in Southern China. A couple of months ago I wrote on the impact indoor weather had on the spread of SARS. As for SARS today there still remains no cure and people in Hong Kong view this disease as a potential epidemic that can resurge itself seasonally and spontaneously. Controls have been put into place in Hong Kong, such as temperature monitoring of schools and transit areas, which can be seen throughout the region. As I speak with people and visit various areas of Hong Kong, SARS is still a concern.
