Ebola still on the rise in West Africa. News24 notes the highest number of deaths from Ebola has been recorded in Sierra Leone. Read more here.

MERS-CoV has roots in Africa. According to a study in the Journal of Virology researchers suggest the coronavirus was originally a host to African bats. Read more here. 

Community hospitals see an increase in a highly resistant bacteria causing hospital infections. Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), a highly drug-resistant bacteria, has increased five-fold in southeastern US hospitals according to a study in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. MERS cases on the decline. According to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health as of July 19th there have been no new MERS cases reported or deaths related to MERS. Read more here.
